I've been taking photos for around 15 years. I'm still no-where near as good as I'd like to be ... especially when I see the inspirational efforts of other better skilled photographers on Flickr. But its a way of recording the places I visit and things that interest me. Like most photographers I suffer from an addiction to camera lenses - although my usual "go to" lens is a Canon EF 70-200 IS II fitted on a Canon 7D body. This is fine for most of my general nature shots. Unfortunately its just not close enough for most bird photos, so I really should invest in a 400mm ... although the really good ones are generally around the cost of a small car.
